My dear,
We live in a world where everything comes at a price. We rent from others, we want for what we don’t have, and are never satisfied with what we do. Our desires keep us unfree. Our jobs keep us unfree. And our governments and businesses keep us unfree. And sometimes our very religions keep us unfree. So what do we do?
What do the advertisers and businesses do with a woman who wants for nothing? What do the tax collectors do with a man who sustains his own living, on his own land, with his own hands?
The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.
Falsely yours,
Albert Camus
