My dear,
An artist has two jobs.
One is the obvious one – to create something new; something that brings the future closer, touches people’s hearts a million times over, and in the process makes the harshness of being that much more bearable.
The other is less subtle.
An artist’s job, the one underlying all of their creations, is to destroy. To destroy the old propaganda, the old mindsets, the old prejudices, the old stereotypes, and the old hates. And artist’s real job is to destroy, and in that void space, to create something better than what was there before.
Every act of creation is first an act of destruction.
Falsely yours,
Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso
