My dear,
The lesson that passes through the ears is heard, retained for a day’s time, and forgotten in sleep.
The lesson that passes through the eyes is seen, recalled for a season’s cycle, and forgotten by winter.
But the lesson that passes through the hands and body is understood by the heart, and stays for at least fifty winters, and not less.
I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.
Falsely yours,
Confucius
