My dear,
When befriending others please, please, please have no friends not equal to yourself.
I may sound cruel for saying so, but the truth is rarely soft, and usually harsh.
Befriend those as good as you, or those higher than you – better than you.
If you befriend those lower than you, you will be dragged to their level. You will deprive yourself of the joy and wisdom that comes from having friends that have something to offer you. For friends are supposed to encourage you, teach you something new, surprise you, comfort you, and occasionally make you see the error of your ways.
This cannot be done with friends who are not equal or greater to you.
Better friends make a better you.
Falsely yours,
Confucius
